If you’re visiting the South Carolina Lowcountry from “off” (that’s a Southern term, meaning you don’t live on the island), you probably want to get your fill of fresh seafood while you’re here, right? You’re in luck, because in addition to the wonderful restaurants that populate the island and surrounding areas year-round, the fifth annual Hilton Head Island Seafood Fest will be held April 28, 2012.
The festival kicks off Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. with live entertainment from Cranford & Sons. The main event will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Shelter Cove Community Park with local restaurants serving their seafood specialties. Live entertainment will be provided by The Headliners.
Area restaurants participating in the festival include: Black Marlin, Bluffton Oyster, The Chart House, The Crazy Crab, L’ Woods, Hudson’s on the Docks, The Wreck of the Salty Dog, Street Meet American Tavern and more.
In addition, there will also be a Farmer’s Market, a Kid Zone and an Iron Chef competition.
Local chefs will be presented with identical “mystery baskets” containing various ingredients, including two core local seafood ingredients. The chefs will be given one hour to create an appetizer and an entrée, both of which will be judged by a panel on creativity, composition, taste, and presentation.
Ron Andrews, president of the Low Country Chapter of the American Culinary Federation, who has competed in numerous Iron Chef competitions, will serve as one of the event judges.
